Georgioupolis
Georgioupolis is a popular vacation resort built on the delta of the river Almiros and boasting the longest (9 km) sandy beach on the west coast of Crete. With the stunning White Mountains as its backdrop and the air scented with giant eucalyptus trees, Georgioupolis holds the original charm and tranquillity of the quiet fishing village in days of old. The small tightly knit community of locals offer warm and friendly hospitality to visitors while keeping their own character firmly in tact. There are excursions by small boats to the surrounding beaches and there is also a small road-going train touring the neighbouring areas including the springs and waterfalls at the village of Argiroupolis. The long stretches of golden sandy beaches in front of the village, the lake of Kournas close by and the proximity of the cities of Chania and Rethymnon, make Georgioupolis a good starting place for visitors.
